Taking a magnifying glass to the incredible variety of
armored vehicles,
tanks and transporters which were used during the Second World War, Corgi are
bringing to the collector a new level of detail and accuracy unseen before on
die-cast scale models of this era. The first range will concentrate on the World
War in Europe and in order to bring this epic arena to life we have chosen to
model some of the groundbreaking and iconic vehicles which were to bring such
devastating effect to the six years of war that raged across all parts of the
continent.
The World War II Collection will become a mark of the highest
caliber and
this first 2003 range sets an exciting level of excellence. The meticulous
attention to detail features working aspects to the models where appropriate,
highly specific livery details, realistic look weathering and battle scarring,
and in some instances unique and innovative features of the vehicles are also
included. Each Limited Edition model has a numbered certificate and all models
are presented in superb display packaging.
HISTORICAL NOTE: The 37th Tank Battalion had cartoons and names painted on the hull sides of most of their tanks. “Thunderbolt” was Colonel Creighton Abrams first Sherman. Abrams would go on to become US Army Chief of Staff during the Vietnam War, the new M1 tank now in service is named after him. This Sherman carries the usual star insignia on the hull sides and turret roof with blue drab serial numbers toward the rear of the hull sides. The rear deck carries a fluorescent air identification panel in electric yellow and white.
