*** Hand Signed on upper surface of wing by Doolittle Raiders Flight Crewmember: Lt. Richard Cole
Historical:
On April 18, 1942, Lt. Col. Richard Cole (then 2nd Lieutenant) flew from the deck of the Aircraft Carrier U.S.S. Hornet on what would be one of the most daring raids on the empire of Japan during World War II. Cole was the co-pilot of a B-25B Mitchell bomber piloted by Jimmy Doolittle, the mission leader. This attack, America’s first retaliatory strike, would be so decisive that it would ultimately lead to the turning point of the war by provoking the Japanese counter attack and defeat at Midway in June of that same year.
Sadly, Lt. Col. Richard Cole died April 9, 2019 at 103 years old.

The B-25 model is spectacular with excellent detail and high quality fabrication. But what makes this airplane model so very special is the signature of Lt. Col. Richard Cole on the wing. As copilot on the lead plane with General Doolittle he was a participant in one of the most daring and important American military operation of WWII. As a student of military history I am thrilled to have an item autographed by an American patriot.
