Historical Note:

OXFORD DIECAST "HISTORY OF FLIGHT" SERIES

New line from OXFORD DIECAST WWII MILITARY AIRCRAFT SERIES!

Historical Note:    In late 1933, the Dragon Rapide was designed at the de Havilland company as a faster and more comfortable successor to the DH.84 Dragon. It was in effect a twin-engined, scaled-down version of the four-engined DH.86 Express. It shared many common features with the larger aircraft, including its tapered wings, streamlined fairings and theGipsy Six engine, but it demonstrated none of the operational vices of the larger aircraft, and went on to become perhaps the most successful British-built short-haul commercial passenger aircraft of the 1930s.

de Havilland DH.89B Dominie In The Air (03:38)
A short air-to-air clip of the Mandeville (New Zealand) based de Havilland DH.89b Dominie (mustakeningly called a Dragon Rapid in the video) as it effortlessly glides over the Marlborough countryside. These aircraft were used through-out New Zealand in the 1930's and 1940's as regional airliners of their day. 1. Nice Quality, Good Attemtion to Detail 5 Star Review

Posted by on 3rd Nov 2024

I worked on this aircraft in the 1980s at Henstridge Airfield, Somerset, England. Ever since, I often recall the beautiful way in which it had been preserved. The well-crafted model brought back those good memories. Aiken's got it to me in Australia in good time and excellent condition!
