Historical Note:

Eastern Airlines Lockheed L-188 Electra, Golden Falcon - The Lockheed L-188 Electra is an American turboprop airliner built by Lockheed. It was the first turboprop airliner produced in the United States. It first flew in 1957 and when first delivered had only slightly inferior performance to that of a turbojet airliner but at a lower operating cost. American Airlines was the launch customer, followed by Eastern Airlines and Braniff Airways. Many airlines in the US flew Electras, but the only European airline to order the type was KLM. In the South Pacific, TEAL and Air New Zealand flew the Electra. In Australia TAA and Ansett operated Electras on routes between Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, and to Port Moresby from 1959 until 1971. Qantas also operated four Electras, VH-ECA,B,C & D at about the same time across the Tasman. The Electras flew in commercial service until the mid-1970s. Some units were sold to Brazilian airline Varig, operated with a perfect safety record until 1992 on the Rio de Janeiro-SÌ_å£o Paulo (that route is called Ponte AÌ_å©rea - air bridge, in Portuguese) shuttle service before being sold to Zaire. Others were retired into air cargo use. A total of 144 L-188s were built, 57 of which have been destroyed in accidents, according to the Aviation Safety Network. The most recent Electra accident was in July 2003.

Eastern Airlines Lockheed L-188A Electra (N5517) History in less than 5 Minutes (03:01)
Welcome to the Nova Airmada channel hello to my future subscribers and my loyal subscribers. Today’s aircraft is the Eastern Airlines Lockheed L-188A Electra, with this aircraft wearing Eastern Airlines 1970’s White Hockey Stick livery. Please watch to the end to see this aircraft’s full history. This Lockheed Electra was initially delivered to Eastern Airlines from the Lockheed factory in Burbank, California, on January 18, 1959. Powered by four Allison 501 series turboprops, producing up to 3,750 shp or 2,800 kw at full power, each. At this point in this airliner’s history, the aircraft was painted in Eastern Airlines 1950’s era Golden Falcon livery. While flying for Eastern Airlines, this Lockheed Electra’s Passenger loads could be as high as 98 passengers. As a Cargo aircraft, this aircraft could carry 33,800 lb or 15, 300 kg of payload. At this time the aircraft was registered as N5517. Zantop International Airlines took possession of this aircraft, after it’s cargo conversion in July of 1978. The aircraft retained the same registration, but was repainted in Zantop’s simple livery of a red cheatline on the fuselage and on the vertical stabilizer, along with Zantop titles above the fuselage cheatline. While with Zantop International Airlines, the aircraft and it’s Lockheed Electra siblings were delivering cargo from the Willow Run Airport near Detroit Michigan all across North America and to locations outside of North America. However, fate would have this aircraft suffer an ignoble end. In 1993, the aircraft, while sitting on the tarmac, in between cargo flights caught fire in the cockpit. With no casualties or injuries, the fire was put out, but the aircraft was considered a total loss. After this the aircraft was broken up for scrap at Willow Run Airport. #airplane #airplanes #airplane_pics #airplanetoy #airplanepictures #flying #collection #collectibles #1400 #1400scale #diecast #diecastcollection #diecastcollector #diecastaddict #diecasts #passengerplane #jetengine #turbofan #history #airliners #airlines #airline #airlinervideos #airlinereview #airlinesnews #airlinenews #flight #flights #flyingairplane #boeing #airlines #airbusboeingaviation #electra #lockheed #l188 #l188a #easternairlines #airlines #eastern #subsonic #zantop #airport #colors #flagofamericat #scrapped #scrappers #geminijets #turboprop #allison #international #propeller #geminijets1400 #airlines #geminijetsmodels #gemini #geminis #usa #united_states_of_america #fourprop #livery #burnedout #accident #burned #willowrun #jetengine #passengerplane #unitedstatesofamerica #reels #reel #shortsvideo #shortsfeed #shortsyoutube #shorts #short #shortvideo #subscribe #shortreels #shortsreel #shortshistory #shorthistory #shortsyoutubevideo #shortsyoutubeshorts #shortsyoutubevideos #shortsviral #shortsbeta #shortsclip #shortsclip #shortscraft #youtube #youtuber #subscribe #shortsadoptme #shortsanity #shortsbeta #instagramyoutube #youtuberlikes #youtubevide #shortscomedy #youtubegrowth #youtubeusers #aviation #aviationlovers #aviationphotography #aviationgeek #aviationdaily #aviation4u #mrbeast #aviationlife #aviationphoto #instaviation #aviation_lovers #militaryaviation #aviationlover #aviationporn #airbusboeingaviation #aviationworld #aviationpics #igaviation #aviationspotter #aviationpic #aviationphotos #generalaviation #mrbeast #aviationgeeks #aviationlove #megaaviation #history #historyfacts #mrbeast #aviationenthusiast #goproaviation #aviationismylife #excellentaviation #aviationtopia #loveaviation #aviationgoals #businessaviation #aviationspotters #aviationnerd #aviations #monthly #compilation #review #reviews #reviewscripted #history #historyfacts #historyofamerica #historyofjamaica
