Frederick Streig claimed five aircraft destroyed and two damaged and was later promoted to Lt(jg). This F4U is depicted after the last of his tally was scored, 2.5 Zekes claimed over Rabaul on 27th January 1944. It is unusual in that it retains the red surround to the national insignia, a colour that only appeared with the addition of white bars on 28th June 1943 with the surround disappearing on the 31st July due to possible confusion with the Japanese Hinomaru.
