Historical Note:
The F-104B was a two-seater variant with the maiden flight taking place on January 16, 1957 with the USAF ordering 26 F-104Bs that year. The first F-104B went operational with the 83rd FIS at Hamilton AFB. The F-104 had the Vulcan canon removed to make space for the second seat. The ROCAF operated a total of 282 aircraft in a mixture of 8 variants, A, B, D, G, J, DJ, RF-104G, and TF-104G. These aircraft served with 3 TFWs, 7 TFS and 1 TRS.
The first F-104 delivered to the ROCAF was F-104G Starfighter 4301 c/n 683C-4054, model 683-10-19, U.S. serial 62-12250. In 1963 the aircraft received an ROCAF code of 4301 and assigned to the 8th TFS / 3 Wing CCK (Ching Chuan Kang) AB. Later the aircraft was transferred to the 7th TFS “Wolf” Squadron where it operated until March 1991 when it was withdrawn from service with 5,317 flight hours. A decommissioning ceremony for ROCAF F-104s was held on May 22, 1998 at CCK AB where 4301 is the Gate Guard.

This edition of the HM F-104G differs from others in having: (1) extensive stenciling, including some used exclusively by ROCAF; (2) low visibility operational color scheme. The ROCAF F-104s are also iconic in being a symbol of the China/Taiwan cold war when it was still the premier fighter of the ROCAF. Highly recommended. As usual, Aikens provided excellent service with good quality control, fast shipping, and competitive pricing.
