The Royal Netherlands Air Force 323 Squadron formed on November 15, 1948 and in 1950 became a Fighter Weapons School. In July 1992 the 323 became Tactical Training Evaluation and Standardization Squadron (TACTESS). Equipped with the F-16AM (Mid Life Update) the 323 was also used as an operational unit. On October 31, 2014 323 TACTESS retired but on June 15, 2015 323 was resurrected as a Test and Evaluation Squadron (TES) located at Edwards AFB flying the F-35A. One of the two aircraft used at Edwards was F-001 MSN AN-1 delivered July 2013.
The Lockheed F-35 is an advanced stealth fifth generation fighter combining speed and superb agility. There are three variants; F-35A, B and C. The F-35A CTOL (Conventional Take Off and Landing) and has four internal weapons stations in two weapons bays plus three optional external weapons stations. The F-35B STOVL (Short Take Off Vertical Landing) variant while the F-35C is a CV (Carrier Variant). The F-35 will replace the USAF A-10 and F-16, the F/A-18 for the USN and the F/A-18 and AV-8B Harrier for the USMC.
