The Vought F4U Corsair was one of the greatest combat aircraft in World War II. It was the first US warplane to exceed 400 mph and outperformed all other American aircraft at that time. Some 12,571 Corsairs were made, the last being built in 1952. US Navy #176 flew off the aircraft carrier USS Bunker Hill during the war under the command of Roger Hedrick who commanded VF-84, then VF-17 with a final tally of twelve confirmed victories and four damaged by 26 Feb 1945.
