Hans Gunther von Kluge was a German officer in WWI who went on to become a Field marshal during WWII. Kluge held commands on both the Eastern and Western Fronts. Although not an active participant in the 20th July assassination attempt, he was recalled to a personal meeting in Berlin to 'discuss recent events related to the July 20 assassination attempt' with Hitler. He was offered the choice of a public trial/disgrace or suicide, obviously the result of the trial was a foregone conclusion! Refusing to commit suicide and opting for a public trial, he was then shot dead by SS officer Jurgen Stroop.
