Tunisia 1943 - In North Africa, an air concentration did not give back to Rommel the air superiority he had enjoyed during the summer of 1942. When the decisive battle of El Alamein started on October 23, 1942, the allies had a two to one lead in the airs. That superiority grew in the following months, the first felt results of the US industrial muscle on the battlefield. If Rommel's crushing in El Alamein was a blow to the axis power, it was nothing compared to the catastrophe of the allied landing in Morocco and Algeria: the whole northern Africa was in danger of falling in ally hands. It was the opportunity for the Luftwaffe to launch one of its last large-scale offensive operations, be it only of transport, in the Mediterranean area. Carried by aircraft, German troops successfully managed to occupy Tunisia, before the Western allies had time enough to reach it.
