IXO MODELS
The Messerschmitt Me109 was GermanyåÕs premier fighter during WWII, with 30,573 craft produced between 1939 and 1945 (accounting for 57% of all fighter production). The modern design of the Me109 ensured it scored more aerial victories than any other Allied or Axis aircraft. The Me109 underwent a series of improvements throughout its lifetime, and one of these was the Me109E-1 åÒEmilåÓ, which featured two 7.92mm MG 17s above the engine and two MG 17s in the wings. It also featured the FuG 7 Funkgerät radio set and Reflexvisier gunsight, with 1183 examples of this version being built. Dragon Warbirds has launched a fine new model of an Me109E-1 decked out in the colors and markings of 9./JG 2. The unit Jagdgeschwader 2 åÒRichthofenåÓ was formed on 1 May 1939 and was named after the famous WWI Red Baron. The unit participated in the Battle of Britain with its Me109E fighters flying from bases in Cherbourg and Normandy, doing battle against BritainåÕs gallant Spitfires.

This diecast Me109G10 would have potential if you are willing to do the modifications that I did to make it close to being accurate. The canopy is painted in the wrong style for this model of Me109.... If you gently scrape away the 3 bars at the rear of the canopy, it looks close like the Erla hood which came on the Me109G10. The worst thing about this model is unchangeable. The exhaust stubs are assembled on the wrong side. They are upside down.... It would damage the aircraft if I tried to remove them and install them on the opposite side of the cowling like they should be.... The antenna mast is too tall. You must clip it down some. The antenna under the port wing has to be clipped also. It is supposed to point straight down on the real aircraft. This one has a tab to make it point straight forward, you must clip this incorrect end off, then it installs properly. The main landing gear doors are too short. I took the 2 inaccurate "landing gear up" panels and clipped a small piece off of each one to glue onto the main landing gear to lengthen the gear doors. This was simply done with a nail clipper and super glue. They are even painted correctly RLM76 so they look Ok with this modification. Lastly the nose cone spinner doesn't have a hole in the center to allow the Mk.108 30mm cannon to fire through it. The center of the real Me109G10 has a lip raised ring around the center hole. I accomplished this by heating up glowing red, a small diameter steel wire. When you gently push this into the center of the nose spinner, the hot metal wire mushrooms out some melting plastic from the small hole you are making. So it worked perfectly to make the raised lip ring around the cannon hole... Simple and perfect. Afterwards I gently pressed the tip of the nose spinner onto the flat table to evenly flatten the melted plastic that mushroomed out of the hole as the last step... I hope these minor nessescary modifications that I did will help you to make a decent Me109G10 diecast model "kit"......The only thing that is inaccurate now..... Is the upside down exhaust stubs........
