Escadron de Chasse 2/10 Seine (EC 2/10 Seine) was a distinguished fighter squadron in the French Air and Space Force that operated the Dassault Mirage IIIC. Introduced in the 1960s, the Mirage IIIC was a single-seat interceptor renowned for its speed, capable of reaching Mach 2. The squadron's primary role was air defense, protecting French airspace during the Cold War era. The Mirage IIIC featured advanced avionics and powerful radar, making it effective in interception missions. EC 2/10 Seine played a vital part in France's national defense strategy until it transitioned to more modern aircraft in the late 20th century.
Designed to meet a French government specification for a lightweight, all-weather interceptor, the Dassault Mirage III was first flown on November 17, 1956. This supersonic aircraft has a tailless delta wing configuration and is capable of high speeds (a Mirage IIIA was the first European aircraft to exceed Mach 2 in level flight). It has a provision for a SEPR liquid-fuel rocket engine, which provides additional burst thrust. In production for over a decade, the Mirage III is considered one of Europe's most successful military aircraft designs, serving 20 different nations, some of whom still fly it today.
