Short-Fuse Sallee is the third Mustang of the same name flown by then Capt. Richard Eugene Turner of Cushing, Oklahoma. The markings on this North American P-51D-15-NA belong to the 356th Fighter Squadron of the 354th Fighter Group, 9th USAAF. The presence of D-Day invasion stripes and the number of kill credits would seem to date from late June 1944 when the squadron was already fighting from France. Lt. Col. Turner survived the war and was credited with 11 air-to-air victories and numerous air-to-ground victories. He retired to Ft. Collins, Colorado. He died in Arizona on the 14th of November 1986.
