Pasttime Signs
Historical note: This Quantas Syd Lond vintage metal sign measures 12 inches by 18 inches and weighs in at 2 lb(s). We hand make all of our vintage metal signs in the USA using heavy gauge american steel and a process known as sublimation, where the image is baked into a powder coating for a durable and long lasting finish. We then perform a vintaging process by hand to give this tin sign a more retro and nostalgic look and feel. This vintage metal sign is drilled and riveted for easy hanging.

Printed on heavy duty metal, unlike most of my other signs, this recalls the start up of overseas flights by Qantas (Queensland And Northern Territory Air Services).
In January 1934 Imperial Airways & Qantas set up a subsidiary owned half by each called Qantas Empire Airways. On the 10th December 1934 the first regular service left Brisbane for Darwin & connection with Imperial Airways services on to Singapore, India & England. From April 1935 Qantas took over the Darwin to Singapore leg from Imperial Airways, thus becoming an international airline. Had it wished, Qantas could have imported Lockheed Electras or Douglas DC2s from the United States after 1937 but, as this was an imperial service, the airline had no choice other than to stick with British machines. Thus was ushered in the era of the Empire flying boats, built by Short brothers, England. Their new terminal was at Rose Bay in Sydney Harbour.
This sign is in excellent condition & could only be bettered if it was enamel, but that would make it much more expensive. Some of my existing signs have faded in the outdoors & some not, so only time will tell regarding the durability of this sign.
