Designed by Herb Rawdon and Walter Burnham and built in secrecy in Witchita, Kansas by Walter Beech, the Travel Air was a low flying monoplane with a fixed landing gear. Wing span measured 29 feet 2inches, with an overall length of 20 feet 2inches. Powered by a 420 h.p. air cooled Wright J-6 Whirlwind engine, it achieved a maximum speed of 230 m.p.h!
