William Bishop: Billy Bishop was a Canadian flying ace credited with 72 victories making him the highest scoring Canadian pilot of WW1. After the war Bishop went into the aviation business with Willy Barker which was short-lived due to financial and legal difficulties, he dabbled in various other businesses before re-enlisting into the RCAF and was instrumental in setting up the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan during WW2. The war took its toll on his health and Bishop died peacefully in his sleep in 1956 aged 62 years old, he was awarded the Victoria Cross amongst many other awards during his service to his country.

Thomas Gunn Miniatures is known for their quality 1/30 scale metal toy soldiers and this figure of British RFC ace William Bishop from their Great War (WWI) figure line is no exception. The figure is displayed standing (affixed) on a ladder, ostensibly boarding an aircraft. I got the figure to go with a John Jenkins Designs model of Bishop’s Nieuport 17 aircraft that I recently acquired. The Thomas Gunn figure looks great with the JJD aircraft model. The only detracting issue is that the figure does not include a base and so must be positioned carefully to avoid sliding and possibly damaging the model it is displayed with. Nevertheless I’m happy with the purchase!
