Wolfgang Luth was the second highest scoring U Boat Ace of WWII. He was also awarded the Knights Cross with Oak Leaves and Diaomonds. Luth survived the war only to be accidentally killed by a German sentry on the night of 13/14th May 1945. He was the last German to be given a full state funeral with military honours under the authority of the Third Reich.
