The X-51 'large' is a very interesting model and because of just that I googled it to get more information. I enjoyed finding out why it is callled "wave rider" all because of the resulting compressive lift. This led me to look at my XB-70 books because when the XB-70 lowers her wing tips 65 degrees she generates compressive lift as well and like the X-51, she can ride her own shock wave . All this and more just because I looked at and purchased this large sleek X-51. Fun time!

The X-51 model resulted from reading an article on the XB-70 on compression lift. I knew about lift but was naïve about CL. The whole concept of a hypersonic vehicle, especially a lifting body device such as the X-51 or the XB-70 can ride their own shock wave at mach 3, which provides lift and better fuel consumption. PS yes the XB-70 with her huge wing tips fully down 65 degrees can achieve this waverider effect. Sooo, I purchased the X-51 model. Makes sense??!!
